Planet Dog's Sustainability

Planet Dog and the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC)

Since 1997, Planet Dog has led the pack in designing and developing eco-friendly products with a deep commitment to philanthropy at our core. Sustainability permeates our values, our product development, and our social commitment, leading us to become a founding member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), an industry-wide collaboration to provide tools and education to accelerate environmental and social sustainability.

Planet Dog continues to “romp the romp” with our own sustainability journey. Meet the Planet Dog Sustainability Council

  • Stacy Eby - Stacy joined the Sustainability Council because she liked the idea of helping develop standards and measures to ensure Planet Dog is striving to achieve its sustainability goals. Sustainability is also very important to her on a personal level. Her role on the committee will be to coordinate and find learning opportunities for Planet Dog employees on sustainability and to develop sustainability focused partnerships with vendors and other companies in the community. She is also helping analyze effectiveness of sustainability efforts.
  • Piner Markovchick - Piner is passionate about giving back and joined the Sustainability Council to make sure Planet Dog is growing in the greenest way possible. Piner's major role on the committee is to develop and execute greener initiatives at the Planet Dog Company Store, to assist in marketing and messaging about our initiatives to our stakeholders and to seek out and implement educational activities for the Planet Dog staff about sustainability in the workplace.
  • Sean Matthews - Sean joined the Sustainability Council to learn more about how he could make the wholesale warehouse run more efficiently. He has already been instrumental in transitioning to bags from cardboard boxes and helping the company save money by being more efficient. His role will be to continue to seek out and implement opportunities for the warehouse and the supply chain.

  • Sean Callahan
    Sean brings over 14 years of experience in the veterinary and pet industry. His diverse background includes Accounting, Operations, Customer Support, Sales and Marketing. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and an MBA from The University of Southern Maine. In his spare time, he can be found at his daughter Kiely’s sporting events, pawing through trash and treasures at yard sales and renovating his house with his wife, Wendy.

  • Jason Saaf - Inside Sales Account Manager

    Ella and Lola

    As a lifelong dog owner, Jason is passionate about all things dog. He is thrilled to be spreading the woof about Planet Dog. Jason lives in Portland Maine with his wife Denise their son Milo and two dogs, Ella and Lola. His spare time is spent mountain biking, skiing, playing tennis, golf, frisbee golf and taking hikes and beach excursions with his family.

Planet Dog's Campus Team

The Planet Dog Campus Team works out of our lively headquarters in Westbrook, Maine.

    • Pete Dubuc - Operations Supervisor

      After a career in radio, Pete decided that working for a community minded, socially conscious, privately owned company would be way better. So, he started working in the Planet Dog warehouse in 2007, just to “get his foot in the door”, also, to “get a paycheck” and “pay his bills”. At every opportunity, Pete stepped up into new positions and now even has his own desk. And a chair. A closet numbers nerd, Pete handles the company’s purchasing and inventory and oversees the Planet Dog distribution center. He is husband to Sarah and human friend to two terrier mix rescue dogs named Luda and Otis. In his spare time, he plays in a band and makes rhubarb wine.

    • CallieStacy Eby - Accounting Assistant

      Stacy Eby graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2004 with a degree Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurial venture Creation and Marketing. Since school she worked in an accounts receivable position, customer service, and for the last three years before joining the Planet dog pack she worked in an accounts payable position for a family owned company in Atlanta, GA. She has been a dog owner and lover her whole life. Stacy says she feels lucky to have found a company that shares the same passion for all things canine and that has made Planet Dog a perfect fit for her.

    • SashaJim Kilburn - Premium Accounts Specialist/Logistics Coordinator

      Jim has been at Planet Dog for over 4 years and during that time has always worked in the warehouse. He really enjoys working with his small team in the warehouse and likes working for a company that does so much for the benefit of dogs. Jim adopted his Doberman, Sasha, 4 years ago from the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk. He admits that she can be a handful but she is very loving and loyal.

    • NovaSean Matthews - Distribution Specialist

      Sean is a huge dog lover. He has owned a bunch of different breeds throughout his life but always finds his way to Pit Bulls. He currently has a year old Blue Pit Bull, named Nova.Sean has worked in the Planet Dog warehouse for a few years. Sean says he loves working at Planet Dog and being a part of the organization. He is proud of the work the Planet Dog Foundation does. Sean says one of the best parts about working at Planet Dog is coming to work and getting to play with all of the dogs in the office.

    • Meagan Cooper - Marketing Coordinator

      Meagan has spent the last decade of her work life in digital marketing. She has helped both small, local companies and global brands scale their presence on social media in order to better connect with customers in digital spaces. She couldn’t be more excited to work for a brand that celebrates all things dog and play! In joining Planet Dog, Meagan returns to her Maine roots and looks forward to endless lobster rolls in the future, visiting all the yurts in the state and mountain biking Maine trails with her husband Matt.

    • catsDana McEnroe- Sales Administration Coordinator

      Dana comes to Planet Dog with a long background in sales and marketing administration at another Maine based company of high quality and sustainable products-Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers. Dana works closely with the Sales Administrator, Management Team and Sales Group to assist in reporting, sales initiative, strategic planning support, event planning and special projects. When not working Dana can be found, along with her husband, restoring their home in Portland. Dana also lives with three adopted felines-Tuffball, Brindle and Happy - so is thrilled to get her "puppy fix" at work.

    • SadieKatie Cioe - Customer Service Specialist

      Katie graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 2016 with a dual bachelor’s degree in communications and media studies. Throughout high school and college, she worked in retail and later made her way into the service industry. Katie is excited to be join the Planet Dog pack as customer service specialist after her role as the marketing intern in the summer of 2017. She is a lifelong dog lover, and favorite auntie to her best friend’s boxer, Sadie (pictured). While she’s not working you can find her at the gym, petting a pup on the sidewalk or spending time in downtown Portland with her friends.

    • BubbaRebecca Smith - Sales and Administration Project Coordinator

      Becca graduated from Roger Williams University in 2015 with a degree in Finance and a double minor in Marketing and Psychology. After graduating, she moved down to the Greater Boston Area where she worked at Reebok for 2 years. She has just recently moved back home to Maine (Portland native) and is extremely excited to be joining the Planet Dog team as a Sales and Administration Project Coordinator. Although she has never had a dog of her own, she is an Auntie to a handful of amazing dogs (shout out to Ruby, Rodney, Finn, and Piper). Although she loves all canines, her biggest PRIDE and JOY is her 3 year old kitty Bubba, who she rescued Thanksgiving of 2015 with her boyfriend. When she isn’t working or cuddling at home with Bubba, you can find her skiing on the slopes or playing soccer with her friends.

    • AlexAlex Fisher- Founder & Chief Creative Officer

      Alex Fisher was born in Brooklyn, NY, but has called Portland, Maine "home" for over 20 years. Alex has a BA from Hobart College and received his MFA from Bard College. Over the 20+ years in Maine he has played a role in many Maine brands. On the short list are...El Rayo Taqueria, Portland Lobster Company, Casco Bay Brewing Company, Kid's Crooked House and Maine Standard Bio. Alex's passion and commitment is to Planet Dog. As the Founder and Chief Creative Officer, Alex continues to grow Planet Dog as an industry leader in development, production, and most importantly "giving back." In 2014, The Planet Dog Foundation reached the pinnacle of having given $1,000,000 in grants and donations. In additions to his interest in small business, Alex directs most of his focus on being an Ambassador of Portland. He puts his MFA to good use as a Trustee of the Portland Museum of Art and always has time to discuss Portland's future. He believes he is blessed to be able to live right in the middle of Portland with his beautiful wife Brianne Fisher, his daughter Hudson, and their two dogs Moose & Salvatore.

    • taskerColleen McCracken - Chief Executive Officer & Partner

      Colleen McCracken has over 30 years of experience in Finance, Operations and Leadership. Colleen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Bentley University and received an Executive MBA with High Honors distinction from Boston University in 2014. Colleen has held numerous positions in Finance, Operations and senior leadership throughout her career with large multi-national companies including WR Grace and G.H. Bass. Prior to joining Planet Dog in 2013, Colleen was the CEO of Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers, Inc., a manufacturer and retailer of premium hand crafted American furniture where she was employed for 15 years. Colleen is the Chair of the Board for the Institute for Family Owned Business (IFOB) and is involved in numerous leadership roles in support of the Institute’s efforts, including CEO Forum, Women in Family Owned Business and judging for the Institute’s Family Business of the Year awards. Colleen is also a previous adjunct teacher at UNE in the Business program.
      Colleen lives in Scarborough with her fiancé,  Norm and their Yorkshire Terrier, Tasker.

      Sean brings over 14 years of experience in the veterinary and pet industry. His diverse background includes Accounting, Operations, Customer Support, Sales and Marketing. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and an MBA from The University of Southern Maine. In his spare time, he can be found at his daughter Kiely’s sporting events, pawing through trash and treasures at yard sales and renovating his house with his wife, Wendy. His buddy in crime is a 5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog named Otis (Big O).
    • pennyrColeen Curley Franzel - Director of Product

      Coleen Franzel brings her passion for product, process and partnership to her role as Director of Product at Planet Dog. In her position, Coleen is responsible for developing Planet Dog's product strategy across multi-channels, focusing on innovation, durability and sustainability while building relationships with local suppliers and businesses to further our mission of production our produce line exclusively in the USA. A graduate of Cornell University, Coleen has over 25 years of product development experience in both hard and soft lines. Beginning her career developing apparel for well-known retail brands, Coleen then went to work for one of the largest promotional production companies in the industry and as Vice President of Programs Development and Sourcing, spent 10 years developing custom product around the globe for Fortune 500 "power brands." Prior to joining Planet Dog in 2014, Coleen was developing smart, innovative and profitable product launched for Mariposa and Life is Good. Coleen lives in Gloucester, MA with her husband Jonathan, daughter Marin and Marin’s “little brother” Penny, a red bone coonhound rescue from Tennessee.
    • apolloElizabeth Fagan- Director of Marketing

      While earning a BA in Business Management from Eckerd College Elizabeth knew she was made for a career in marketing. Her business belief is that the best brands make products that do no harm; hence her thrill at joining Planet Dog. Elizabeth's 15 years experience include a decade spent on the agency side, notably at VIA in Portland. Working in advertising helped her develop expertise in multiple categories and disciplines. After rising to the role of lead strategists for a several multi-million dollar global brand Elizabeth accepted a consulting assignment in Beijing, where she led the introduction to the Chinese market of Mercedes-Benz CONNECT, a multi-functional telematics system that supports advanced driver-vehicle interaction. China is the second market to feature the breakthrough service after launch in Germany. The most challenging part of the job was living without her beloved Shi-Tzus, Apollo and Dublin, who were cared for by her dad. They were ecstatically reunited in Portland, where she happily brings them to hang out with all their doggie buddies in the Planet Dog offices.
